TikTok will offer longer videos

TikTok is introducing its new feature, which it has been testing since December last year. The Platform increases the video limit from 60 seconds to 180 seconds for all users.

The popular social media app TikTok is implementing an innovation that will allow all its users to post videos in up to three minutes. The Platform aims to give creators more flexibility when shooting more videos with its new feature.

TikTok aims to attract the community

Drew Kirchhoff, the company’s product manager, said in a statement::

“Creative expression brings people together. That’s how we connect with our communities. In this way, we educate, inform and inspire each other. Also for this reason, we are focused on providing our community with a range of tools to help them unleash creativity. Longer videos will now be among the tools people can use to lure the community with their creative expressions.”

In addition to explanations for the upcoming innovation, the platform did not say how much longer videos and clips might affect its recommendation algorithm. But it may be necessary to consider possible parallels with YouTube. Because YouTube, as it grew, directed its algorithm toward keeping viewers inside. For this reason, almost every video on the platform takes over 10 minutes.

TikTok, on the other hand, is not expected to fully adopt the same approach. But given that longer videos mean more use, it is possible to predict that viral clips will be published longer.
