Understood what caused New world to ‘cook’ RTX 3090 graphics cards

The problem that caused Amazon’s new game New world to almost ‘Cook’ RTX 3090 graphics cards, which are in the process of being a closed beta, seems to have been solved. According to a new report, the problem is not the game, but the EVGA-branded cards.

Amazon recently launched a closed beta of its new high-budget online role-playing game, New World. The RPG genre, which has already managed to become one of the most popular games on Steam, has been decked out, especially with the load it overlaps on graphics cards. Many users even reported that the game had corrupted the video card.

The majority of the cards affected by this incident belonged to EVGA. The company, which recently made an announcement on the issue, said they were aware of the situation and would make changes for the affected cards. Amazon denied reports that the game had corrupted its graphics cards, but did not neglect to release a patch limiting New world’s frame rate just in case.

Apparently, the problem stems from EVGA cards

It seems that the problem is not caused by the game, as Amazon said, but by EVGA-branded graphics cards. According to a new report shared by Igor’S LAB, EVGA is trying to increase fan speed to mind-boggling levels when New World opens.

Testing the game with the EVGA RTX 3090 to view it, the source launched the game with several hardware monitoring programs to see possible problems. As you can see from the screenshot, the GPU fan, which normally runs at 1600 rpm, tried to go up to 200,000 rpm when the game was on.

As you can imagine, it is quite likely that the fan will burn itself at such a speed, and if this happens, the GPU will have to work without sufficient cooling. If the player does not notice that the GPU fan is dead and continues to play the game, there is probably a major malfunction in the graphics card.

EVGA had already said it would replace the damaged RTX 3090s for free. But given that cards can cause similar problems in different games, the best solution seems to be for the firm to release a software update for the affected cards.
