Ford Fiesta and Focus become history

Ford is preparing to pull the plug on two of its best-selling models. The US car giant will not launch the continuation models of the Fiesta and Focus. Even the electric versions of these vehicles will not see the light of day.

Launched in 1976 and 1998, respectively, and aimed primarily at the European Sunday, Fiesta and Focus have become the choice of millions of customers over the years. The Ford Fiesta has sold more than 22 million units in 46 years while changing seven generations.

The Focus has been designed as a global car and has achieved significant sales figures on all continents. Despite all this success, Ford will not bring the continuation of these two models. Fiesta will complete its life cycle in 2023, while the current generation Ford Focus will remain in production until 2025.

The era of the SUV revolution

“We have no plans to launch an electric Fiesta or Focus,” said Martin Sander, President of Ford of Europe. The Sunday is changing, the days of sedans and station wagons are over,” he said. So what will Ford replace them with?

It is planned to focus on SUVs and crossover vehicles. Fiesta’s absence will hardly be felt, as the small hatchback sold 49,872 units in Europe in the first nine months of 2022. That’s half the size of the Ford Puma, which sold 105,256 units.

Focus, on the other hand, is still popular in Europe. In the three quarters of this year, it reached a sales figure of 101,066 units. Thus, it drew a performance close to the Ford Kuga, which sold 107,966 units in the same period. Despite these promising figures, there will be no successor to Focus. The company plans to release an electric SUV in the compact segment instead.
