Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a tomb belonging to the pharaoh near the capital Cairo. It has been announced that the mummy found in the tomb may be the oldest mummy discovered in Egypt to date.
The mummy is 4,300 years old according to the first determinations
In the studies carried out, the age of the mummy was determined as about 4,300 years. The mummy was found near the Stepped Pyramid in Saqqara, near the tombs belonging to the fifth and sixth dynasties of the Old Kingdom.
It was shared that the mummy belonged to a man named “Hekashepes”. The mummy had a gold leaf coating and was located inside a sarcophagus built of limestone.

Zahi Hawass, the leader of the team that made the discovery, also stated that the mummy may be the best-preserved mummy discovered in Egypt to date.

In addition to the mummy of Hekashepes, the team also found the tombs of Khnumdjedef, who was an inspector under Una’s administration, Meri, the “keeper of secrets and assistant to the great leader of the palace”, and Fetek, the priest of the Pepi I administration.
In Fetek’s tomb, the largest sculptures discovered to date in the Memphis region where the discovery was made were also found. Statuettes representing a man and a woman and their servants were also among those Deciphered in the same way in other tombs.
