The 2005 espionage movie Mr and Mrs Smith is returning to screens as a series. Amazon Prime Video shared the official trailer for the eight-part spy comedy series Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The series stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The actors play spies pretending to be a married couple who take on risky jobs each week for the mysterious organization.
The series centers on two married spies. John and Jane, two lonely strangers, take a job working for a mysterious spy agency. This spy company offers them wealth, world travel, and a dream life in Manhattan. Then John and Jane get married for the mission. Also, thanks to this marriage, John and Jane now have a new identity as Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Now married, John and Jane face a new relationship milestone as they embark on a high-risk mission each week. Their business story becomes even more complicated when they start to develop real feelings for each other. Which is riskier, espionage or marriage?
Originally, Donald Glover was to be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. However, Waller-Bridge dropped out of the project months before filming began. The producer approached Maya Erskine for the lead role. All eight episodes of the series will begin airing on Prime Video on February 2, 2024.
In addition to Glover and Erskine, the cast includes Parker Posey, Michaela Coel, Ron Perlman, Paul Dano, Alexander Skarsgård, John Turturro, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, Wagner Moura, Sharon Horgan, Billy Campbell and Ursula Corbero.
