Huawei has been rumored to be working on an AR/VR headset for some time. With the launch and success of Apple’s Vision Pro, investments in this project have increased. According to recent reports, the Chinese manufacturer has designed an affordable headset that will directly compete with Apple’s offering.
Huawei Vision to Weigh Only 350 Grams
Li Nan, former marketing director of Meizu, shared information about “Huawei Vision” in his social media posts. He stated that the VR headset, codenamed Huawei Vision, will stand out by being significantly lighter and cheaper than its counterpart, the Apple Vision Pro.
Allegedly, Huawei Vision will weigh only 350 grams. This means it will be almost twice as light as the 600-gram Vision Pro. This design could potentially alleviate neck pain complaints experienced by Vision Pro users.
To provide high-resolution visuals, Huawei will use 4K micro-OLED panels manufactured by Sony. However, the headset is not expected to include a feature similar to Apple’s EyeSight camera system, which allows others to see the user’s eye movements.
Apple does not compromise on performance with the M2 and R1 chips in the Vision Pro. Huawei is expected to utilize its own chips developed by HiSilicon. It remains to be seen how the company will develop its latest chips due to the challenges it faces in chip production because of US sanctions.
Huawei Vision is rumored to be priced significantly lower than Vision Pro, at around $1750. This would be half the price of Apple’s headset, which retails for $3500.
