The Hadron Collider, which is running again today, has just launched a new discovery to the scientific world hours after it started operating.

Scientists working at CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research) have discovered three previously unseen exotic particles with the first launch. Two of these particles became tetraquarks consisting of four quarks, and one became pentaquark particles consisting of five quarks. The new discovery once again proved the correctness of the ‘Standard Model’ theory, which describes the elementary particles that make up the observed matter and have been found so far, as well as the three fundamental forces that play an important role in their interaction.

Humanity has entered a new era of discovery

The new discovery provided an important clue for the future, although, according to scientists, it is not as large as the Higgs boson. Scientists said they believe the new discovery is very close to uncovering one of the building blocks of the Hadron Collider that has never been seen before, but that makes up the universe.

While the basic compounds in atoms, such as protons and neutrons, consist of three quarks, it is extremely rare to find combinations of four and five quarks. In fact, until now, it was assumed that these compounds existed only for a moment before decomposing into different types of particles. According to scientists, the new discovery shows that we are in a time in December like the 1950s when the mystery about particles was most clarified.

In addition, scientists hope that the current study of the Large Hadron Collider will reveal physical evidence that goes beyond the Standard Model to explain the nature of mysterious phenomena such as dark matter. It is estimated that with such evidence, signs can be found of new subatomic particle arrays and even other dimensions in our universe.

What is a quark?

Quarks, which are one of the Dec components of the elementary particle and matter, form compound particles known as ‘hadrons’ when they come together. The Large Hadron Collider also collides protons, one of the most stable of these compound particles, with each other at a speed close to the speed of light.

Although the proof of the pentaquarks was again reached by CERN for the first time in 2015, their existence had not been proven. Scientists think that studies, especially on pentaquarks, will allow us to understand how protons and neutrons, the building blocks that make up all of us, are formed.
