Palworld attracted a lot of attention with its open-world survival game structure and became the most popular game on Steam recently. Even titles like Counter-Strike 2 were left behind by Palworld. As the game became so popular, the similarities between the creatures in the game and Pokemon became more prominent.
With the statement from The Pokemon Company, whether Palworld will be taken to court has become a more important question mark. Under normal circumstances, it is not easy for companies to prove their intellectual property unless a direct design is used in such productions. Palworld, on the other hand, has achieved a success that is actually a business lesson.
The Pokemon Company’s statement is as follows:
We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.

Nintendo is one of the most aggressive companies in the industry when it comes to protecting their intellectual property, even taking action against parodies they don’t like. It was expected that Palworld would have a similar problem. Still, one of the reasons why Palworld has been so successful is that Pokemon fans have long wanted an open-world Pokemon game that they could access.
Pokemon games aren’t available on most platforms, and even if gamers were interested in the world, they couldn’t enter it. Perhaps Palworld will pave the way for Pokemon titles to come to other platforms in the future.
