Those who believed the Earth was flat eventually did so, too, for proof

If the Earth were flat, it would be incredibly easy to prove: for example, go to any seashore or the horizon, a dive boat far away and watching and look at any of the astronauts on the International Space Station from Earth, we could ask to take a photo of.

However, there are people who believe that the Earth is flat, but so far they have not been able to offer any evidence. But there are still those struggling to find evidence to support that claim. Despite restrictions imposed due to the pandemic in Italy, a couple from Venice set out to prove the flatness of the Earth by sailing to the tip of the earth, which they believe is somewhere near Sicily.

“The duo left Veneto during the closure of Lampedusa and broke all the rules,” Salvatore Zichichi of the Health Ministry’s Maritime Health Department told Italian newspaper La Stampa, adding: “in Termini Imerese they sold their cars and bought a boat. They thought Lampedusa (one of the Italian-owned Pelagie Islands in the Mediterranean) was the end of the Earth and said they would prove it.”

This journey, which was obvious from the beginning that it would end in disappointment, soon encountered some obstacles. First, if you’re planning a trip to the extreme end of the world, it’s not right to try it at a time when there are so many restrictions.

The duo, using a compass (a navigation system based on the principle that the Earth is not flat), set off in their boat and tried to find their way through the Pelagie Islands to reach Lampedusa, La Republica reported. They soon found themselves lost and exhausted on the island of Ustica.

The couple was quarantined by paramedics as the global outbreak was still ongoing. But with their determination to find the edge of the Earth, they escaped once again, only to be captured again three hours later. Upset, they had to return home by ferry.
