Introduced last year with the claim of ‘the most powerful Golf ever’, the new Volkswagen Golf R Variant was introduced, deconstructing the performance of the eighth generation Golf R with ease. Moreover, this long-roofed version also features Drift Mode.
The new Golf R Variant offers a combination of power and decency
Looking at the heart of the 2021 Volkswagen Golf R variant, we see a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder unit that produces 320 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, just like the hatchback version. The engine in question is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.
With this combination, the new Golf R Variant completes 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds longer than the hatchback version. The maximum speed is normally limited to 250 km/h but increases to 270 km/h when the R Performance Package is purchased. This package also adds 19-inch wheels, as well as Nurburgring and Drift modes.
The new Golf R Variant weighs 79 kilograms heavier than the hatchback version in return for usability. The volume of luggage offered with the rear seats in use is 611 liters. When the seats are folded, this value goes up to 1642 liters. The model, which has a towing capacity of 1900 kg, has also made changes to the suspension system, as its weight and weight distribution differ from the hatchback.
349 mm longer than its predecessor, the 2021 Volkswagen Golf R Variant offers a more spacious living space. The features offered in this area are the same as in the hatchback model. Blue ambiance lighting, carbon fiber-looking trim, sports seats, six flat steering wheels, and blue graphics on the screens are examples of these.
The 2021 Golf R Variant will be available in Europe from next month. The starting price of the new Golf R variant will be 51,585 euros, including VAT.
